LIQUID - A survey exhibition of glass and ceramic artists

Shining a light on the beauty found in functional ware, LIQUID will applaud the sense of intimacy one experiences when using an exquisitely crafted vessel. Ceramic and glass artists from throughout Australia were invited to present works that epitomise the essence of good design, aesthetics and functionality. This exquisite survey exhibition is part of the 2020 Design Canberra Festival, with works and associated items available for purchase.

Pictured Right: Roman style jug 'Callista' (most beautiful) was a Haliad nymph of Greek legend, a daughter of Triton. Approx 40cm tall.
The glazes used for this piece are based on the colours of the Yass and Goodradigbee valleys and contain decorative elements that refer to the Wee Jasper fossil fields which are the remains of tropical reefs from an ancient sea of the Devonian Period.

2017 Jugiong Biennial Art Show

This popular Canberra event has been running for over thirty years and celebrates creativity with an abundance of quality paintings, pottery, silverware, glassware and woodwork offered for sale by local and regional artists. The Art Show opens with a gala event on Friday night and runs throughout the weekend, with a cafe and live music adding to the enjoyment.

The Rubicon: solo exhibition at Belconnen Arts Centre, Canberra, ACT
We presented a major exhibition at the BAC Arts Lounge of original ceramic pieces inspired by the historical personages involved in the assassination of Julius Caesar. If Brutus gave a dinner party the night before, who might have been invited? Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Mark Antony, Cleopatra, Porcia, Calpurnia, Cicero… Over 2000 years since the murder, and their names are still familiar to us today.
“A certain seer warned Caesar to be on his guard against a great peril on the day of the month of March which the Romans call the Ides; and when the day had come and Caesar was on his way to the senate-house, he greeted the seer with a jest and said: “Well, the Ides of March are come,” and the seer said to him softly: “Ay, they are come, but they are not gone.” From: ‘Lives of the Noble Greeks and Romans’ (a.k.a. ‘Parallel Lives’), Plutarch (Lucius Mestrius Plutarchus). ‘BeLonging’ Exhibition at ANU School of Art Foyer Gallery, Canberra ACT
We participated in the BeLonging exhibition, as a member of the Australian Ceramics Association, held as part of the Australian Ceramics Triennale. This exhibition encouraged the artists to draw inspiration and meaning from their surroundings, engage with notions of ‘belonging’ and explore changing attitudes to our ever-evolving community.
Chinese miners arrived in Australia when gold was discovered at Ophir in 1851, bringing with them material aspects of their lifestyle, including pottery. When the miners returned home, they left behind glimpses of their life in the archaeological record, including small, celadon-glazed soy sauce bottles. Such items were once common, but are now rare. This bottle is a modern rendering of an original celadon bottle, using stoneware and our own high-fire glazes, executed in a painterly fashion, to represent the landscape of Ophir in bushfire. It represents our respect for the unknown production potter who made the original bottle. SOLD.
